Research & Development Scientist
Ambature, Inc. is seeking talented Research & Development Scientists to develop our novel high-temperature superconductors into functional prototypes to demonstrate their advantages. This is a multi-disciplinary role requiring complete ownership of your projects from start to finish. Beginning with research, you and the Science Team will work together to identify key metrics for superconducting devices and applications. Then, you will design, implement, analyze, and report on experiments and your results. The role is based in Waterloo, ON and most of your R&D efforts will occur in the QNFCF, the University of Waterloo’s 8000 sq. ft nanofabrication facility as well as its satellite labs. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary.
In this role you will
Design and execute experiments to investigate and develop a wide range of superconducting devices and applications
Develop novel applications, designs, and cleanroom fabrication processes to expand Ambature’s patent portfolio
Explore and analyze simultaneous research parallels to demonstrate key metrics of target applications
Provide technical insights from your experiments to help guide the research efforts of the Science Team
Continuously improve processes and technologies to demonstrate target KPIs
Regularly and clearly communicate results to the Science Team and board members
Participate in technical writing for publications and IP purposes when required
Required qualifications include
Ph.D. or M.Sc. (with equivalent experience) in experimental physics, engineering physics, nanotechnology, or material science
Proficiency in principles and techniques of materials characterization (e.g. XRD, XPS, AFM, SEM, EDX)
Proficiency in principles and techniques of cleanroom fabrication (e.g. Photolithography, thin film deposition, wet/dry etching)
Proficiency in data analysis software for plotting and reporting
Knowledge of superconducting device principles and applications
Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, professional environment
Excellent communication skills and experience reporting/presenting experimental results to a broad audience
Excellent time management skills
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work well independently and collaboratively
Expertise in one or more of the following areas is an asset
High-temperature superconductors
Superconducting devices and applications (RSFQ, Qubits, sensing, etc.)
MBE growth
